I'm convinced that the man who has learned to meditate upon the Lord will be able to run on his feet and walk in his spirit. Although he may be hurried by his vocation, that's not the issue. The issue is how fast his spirit is going. To slow it down takes a period of time.

The true spirit of prayer is no other than God's own Spirit dwelling in the hearts of the saints. And as this spirit comes from God, so doth it naturally tend to God in holy breathings and pantings. It naturally leads to God, to converse with him by prayer.

Remember that grace and truth cannot finally be crucified. Remember that all the high things that make humanity beautiful cannot be forever laid in the dust, spattered with blood. And most of all, remember that He who rose from the dead, rose to pour out His Holy Spirit into human lives, and, by that Spirit, to make available to any individual all the fullness of Himself, twenty-four hours a day.

5 Stories From The Bible About The Holy Spirit

Here are 5 short stories from the Bible about the Holy Spirit.

The Helper – John 14

We all need a little help from time to time, but when it comes to spiritual matters, we need God’s help and nothing less.  Jesus said that “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26).  I need to be taught by God’s Word and by His Spirit, and to be reminded of what God has said in His Word, so that’s why Jesus prayed that “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever” (John 14:16).

Our Prayer Partner – Romans 8

Sometimes we are so overwhelmed by life that we don’t even know how to pray to God.  Our words fail us because of the depth of our pain or sorrow, but our prayer partner, the Holy Spirit, can help us.  The Apostle Paul says, “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26). Need help praying?  Ask the Spirit to help you to put into words the things that you cannot.

The Spirit’s Conviction – John 16

We should thank God that the Holy Spirit convicts us when we sin; He convicts us before we sin; and He reminds us that we should not sin. Jesus said as much by saying that “when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment” (John 16:8).  If we didn’t have the Spirit’s voice, we’d sin more than we ought to.

The Power – 1 Samuel 16

The Holy Spirit is as much God as the Father and the Son is, and we need God’s help in overcoming in this world, but that’s where the power of the Spirit comes in.  After David had been anointed to be the next king in Israel, “the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power” (1 Samuel 16:13), and He can give you His power too.  Jesus told the disciples that “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” (Acts 1:8a).

Fruits of the Spirit – Galatians 5

We cannot bear any fruit without Jesus Christ abiding in us and we in Him (John 15:5), but the Holy Spirit can bear fruit in us, and “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).  If you see these fruits in yourself and in others, it is the Spirit that is working in you and through you.

The Holy Spirit

Without the Holy Spirit, we’d have no conviction of sin; we’d sin more that we should; we’d not have the Helper’s help in times of need; we’d not have the power to overcome; and we’d not be bearing the fruits of the Spirit but the fruits of the flesh.  The Holy Spirit as God works in us and through us, and that’s something we should thank God for.
